Richard Whatman (MIPA, FNTAA) is the principal and founder of BRW Accounting Pty Ltd, based in Wollongong. With over 15 years of professional accounting experience, Richard provides a full range of services to individuals, companies, trusts, partnerships and SMSFs.
He is a Registered Tax Agent, a Member of the Institute of Public Accountants (MIPA), a Fellow of the NTAA (FNTAA), and holds a Public Practice Certificate.
Richard earned his Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Wollongong, majoring in Accounting, Marketing and Public Relations, and later completed his Graduate Diploma of Accounting through Charles Sturt University.
With a strong family history in the profession, Richard was mentored by his father, Brian Whatman, and by Peter Hawketts — the founding partners of Hawketts Accounting in Picton. Both Brian and Peter continue to offer guidance to BRW Accounting, bringing over 80 years of combined experience, including former roles as ATO auditors.
A lifelong local, Richard has lived and worked across the Illawarra, Sydney, and Southern Highlands for more than 30 years. Outside the office, you’ll find him enjoying time at the beach with his wife, son, and their Aussie Bulldog, Crumpet.
Daniel Stratton (CPA) is the lead partner at BRW Accounting Pty Ltd, bringing a unique blend of technical tax knowledge and real-world business insight to the firm. With over 15 years of management experience, Dan specialises in Self-Managed Super Funds (SMSFs) and advanced business structuring — offering tailored advice to clients across a range of complex tax scenarios.
A Certified Practising Accountant (CPA), Dan completed the CPA Program with a Distinction average and is a SMSF Association SMSF Specialist Advisor. He graduated from the University of Wollongong in 2008 with a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Accounting and Finance. Dan’s academic strengths began early — he was awarded Dux of his high school.
Dan has worked closely with and been mentored by Brian Whatman, a respected accountant and former ATO auditor, gaining insight from over 50 years of combined experience in private practice and tax compliance.
Based in Wollongong, Dan supports individuals, business owners, and trustees across the Illawarra region, delivering clear, strategic tax advice built on experience and results.
Outside of work, Dan is a passionate endurance athlete and live music fan. He’s completed multiple Ironman races worldwide, conquered 100km and 100-mile trail ultramarathons, and shares his love of running with his wife and daughter — who recently joined him for her first 1km trail race in the Blue Mountains.
